About the Author

¡Bienvenidos!/Welcome! 

My name is Yolanda Divine and I am excited to share my first self-published children’s book.  I am a proud mommy of three amazing and adventurous boys. We love reading, art, baking, playing basketball, swimming and nature walks. My profession as an early childhood educator has lead me to truly believe that knowledge is power. I mindfully instill this belief into my boys. To me the best way to gain knowledge and information is through books. As a young girl I remember the absolute joy I felt when I was old enough to receive my own library card. As many books that we read as a family it never crossed my mind that I could become an author. I was inspired to write this book when I noticed the lack of Latinx representation in children’s books. I wanted my boys to learn more about their Puerto Rican heritage, and influential Latinx from other Latin countries. As I began my research, I was amazed by the achievements of so many Latinx people. In this book, you will meet athletes, activists, writers, scientists, pilots, and many more. I wanted to bring awareness to the achievements of these influential Latinx. I hope you enjoy reading the kid-friendly biographies for each person and the vibrant drawings by my talented illustrator, William Kennedy.
